A bay in San Juan del Sur on the Pacific coast
San Juan del Sur is located on the southern Pacific coast of Nicaragua, close to the Costa Rican border. Once a quaint fishing village, the town claims to have maintained its charm, despite undergoing much development to become the bustling tourist destination it is today. Its natural beaches and beautiful flora and fauna draw visitors not only from within Nicaragua, but from around the world. Surfers in particular come to take advantage of the high waves. If you go to San Juan del Sur, be prepared; many foreigners decide to make it their new home!
